Carpet Stain Removal Tips!

Everyone knows the feeling of having that bowl of salsa or glass of cranberry juice slip off the counter and hit the carpet. Red goes everywhere, you’re stuck with a huge stain on your favorite spot, and you’re left wondering how to clean your carpet. Surely there’s no hope to get it out, right? Or is there? We’re here to tell you there is.

Every good grandmother has some great tips for getting stains out of the carpet, and we’re not saying they don’t work. But, as professional carpet cleaners, we know a thing or two about carpet. The first thing to remember is that different types of carpets respond differently to different cleaners. So your carpet cleaning tactic will vary depending on the type of carpet you have. Also, what you need to use will depend on what you have spilled!

With all these factors, cleaning carpet stains can be overwhelming. You may be asking yourself, “What should I do!” Or “where do I turn for answers!” Lucky for you, we have some carpet cleaning tips that should help you as you figure out how to get that stain out of your carpet!

Top Tips for Cleaning Carpet

What Has Spilled?

Be mindful of what has spilled onto the carpet. From grape juice, to orange juice, to spaghetti or milk there are so many different kinds of foods and drinks that could have gotten onto the carpet. These stains can be a headache, and we understand. First, figure out what has spilled onto the carpet and once you know, you will know where to look from there.

What Kind of Carpet Needs Cleaning?

The type of carpet you own is also a factor in how the carpet will need to be cleaned and how stain removal will take place. If you are unaware of the type of fiber your carpet is made up of, get in contact with your carpet manufacturer, they will surely know.

Act Fast

The quicker you act and respond to a stain, the better the chances of it being removed entirely are. Unfortunately, the longer a stain sits and is allowed to settle into the fibers of a carpet, the better the chances are that the color of the fiber will change permanently, even after the original stain matter is removed. Be sure to act as quickly as possible, and even have a game plan in place so that when a stain does occur you know how to act.

Don’t Spill

If you are finding yourself cleaning up stain after stain, it could be the time to implement the “no food on the couch” rule, to keep things from slipping down onto the carpet. Accidents do happen, but certain ones can be prevented so our proactive tip would be to take care and keep substances that could stain your carpet in the kitchen.

Blot with Water and Vinegar

Saturating a stain is a great way to make it easier to remove. Another option is making a solution of equal parts vinegar and water and saturating the stain with that. (Ammonia solutions are also known to work well). Once the stain is saturated, allow the solution to settle for ten to fifteen minutes before coming back and scrubbing gently with a sponge to draw out the stain.

Call the Professional

There are many other methods that can be practiced for those who are unsure about how to remove a stain. However, sometimes it can get bad enough that you just want to save both the time and headache, so try calling a professional.
