clean carpet stains in car

We all like to keep our cars clean, but if we don’t keep up with cleaning the interior, there’s a good chance it’ll get out of hand and you’ll simply let the grime pile up. It’s the constant use of our vehicles that allow for them to get dirty which is why you don’t want to neglect cleaning it. At A1A Extreme Green, our specialty is cleaning the interiors of homes, but we do like the keep the inside of our equipment vans clean, so we figured we’d give you some tips on how to do so, because cleaning carpeting is our thing.

Tips for Cleaning your Vehicle’s Carpet

  • Clear out all the trash. If you have any underlying stains, you won’t be able to do anything about those until you get rid of all the empty water bottles, fast food bags, and other wrappers. So, before you do anything, you want to clear out any trash and loose debris.
  • After you’ve cleared out any large pieces of trash that you can physically grab, you then want to grab your quarters and head to the vacuum machine. Of course, you can use your own vacuum, but unless it’s a heavy duty one, it won’t really get the job done. When you begin to vacuum, remember to get under the seats, and you want to run it along the upholstery as well.

Removing Stains from Carpeting

So, you’ve cleaned up all the debris that been resting in the carpeting, now it’s time to start removing the stains that you’ve suddenly discovered. There are a few different ways to remove the stains from your vehicles interior.

  • Removing Grease Stains

To remove grease stains, we’ve actually found that using a little bit of paint thinner on a dry wash cloth will help to break down the stain. Then to prevent the smell of paint thinner from ruining your car, pour salt or cornmeal over it and allow it to sit for about an hour. After that, all you need to do is vacuum it up.

  • Removing Coffee Stains

It’s almost as if coffee stains in the car are inevitable, because there’s really no better time to get your caffeine fix on your morning commute. Now, with that being said, removing those stains is possible, all you need is a little bit of glass cleaner and a clean, dry cloth. Just let the cleaner sit on the stain for about five minutes, and then dry it up.

  • Removing Blood Stains

Whether it’s an accident with another vehicle, or if someone gets a bloody nose from soccer practice, there’s always a chance you can get blood stains in your car. The best way to get rid of blood stains is to create a paste made from cold water and laundry starch. All you need to do is take paste you’ve made and spread it over the stain and let it sit until it dries. The starch will help lift the blood, and once it dries, you just need to vacuum it. If the stain isn’t removed after the first try, but it did fade, repeat the aforementioned process until it’s all gone.
