An Overview of the Different Types of Carpeting

When you begin the process of choosing new carpeting for your home, you’ll probably consider how much it relates to buying a new car. From all the different styles and colors, to determining which best fits your household’s needs, choosing new carpet can become a lengthy process if you’ve never done it before.

Flooring is one of the biggest investments you’ll make when purchasing a new home, or renovating your current. However, aside from it being a large investment, the right flooring that’s well maintained can drastically increase the value of your home should you choose to sell down the road. Now, with that being said, we’re going to look at some of the different types of carpeting to choose from.

It’s important to note that the type of carpet you choose is reliant on the environment of your home. For example, if you live in South Florida, humidity can play a big role in the carpeting you choose, and if you live up north, you want to choose flooring that can endure the winter slush that’s dragged in on everyone’s feet.

Different Types of Carpeting

  • Nylon

In terms of durability, nylon carpet fibers win every time. It’s easy to maintain and if you have it professionally cleaned every few months, it’ll stay in good condition. If you want your carpet to last, this is the perfect kind of fiber to invest in because it’ll be able to withstand heavy foot traffic, and it’s easy to clean.

  • Polyester

Although it’s stain resistant and soft on the underfoot, polyester carpeting is harder to maintain than nylon as it tends to shed. If you insist on installing polyester carpeting in your home, we recommend using it in low traffic areas like the bedroom.

  • Olefin

It’s attractive, inexpensive, and it’s almost as durable as nylon. If you’re looking for something slightly more attractive than nylon, take a look at Olefin carpeting. It’s great for high traffic areas and it’s decently easy to maintain.
